Face It.

"After a while you learn the subtle difference between holding a hand and chaining a soul,
And you learn that love doesn't mean leaning and company doesn't always mean security,
And you begin to learn that kisses aren't do contracts and presents aren't promises,
And you begin to accept your defeats with your head up and your eyes ahead,
With the grace of a woman, not the grief of a child,
And you learn to build all your roads on today because tomorrow's ground is too uncertain for plans,
And futures have a way of falling in mid-flight,
After awhile you learn that even sunshine burns if you get too much,
So you plan your own garden and decorate your own soul instead of waiting for someone to bring you flowers,
And you learn that you really can endure,
That you really are strong and you really do have worth,
And you learn and you learn.
With every good-bye, you learn."

Marci and I exchange quotes/lyrics of sometime everyday. I mean, every. day. Whether it's just a song we hear on the radio, something we read, or even a bumper sticker on Facebook. She sent this to me via text tonight, and my jaw dropped. Which I knew is why she sent it to me, because her jaw dropped too.

Defeat.
Hurt.
It happens, to everyone.
It's so easy to let things get you down, for a day.. a week.. a month. But then, that month turns into several months. And you're in this pattern of just feeling down and worthless because nothing seems to be going right. I'm guilty of it, I admit it. Pain is easy to avoid, to just put on a face and go on with life. I don't wear masks. I think avoiding what's going on just makes it build up, which is worse. So what do you do? You learn. You learn from your mistakes. You become stronger, remember what happened and don't repeat the same mistake twice. Friendships and relationships break, who or what to blame is the question. People from your past are there for a reason, and sometimes all you can do is learn from whatever happened.

I couldn't decide which to put, so you can enjoy both:

"Pain, you just have to fight through, because the truth is you can't outrun it and life always makes more." - Grey's Anatomy

"You can run from the disappointments you're trying to forget. But its only when you embrace your past that you truly move forward." - "
Now and Then"
